Unveiling of Memorial to Te Rapihana Hawaikiranga at Pakipaki

Two photo's show a large group of Māori people gathered at Houngarea Marae in Paki Paki for the unveiling of a memorial to Te Rapihana Hawaikirangi who died on 30th October 1919, aged 60.
Translation of text on the monument: He was one of the worthy sons of an illustrious line of chiefs, being a descendant of Te Whatiupiti and Kahungunu. He was a grand-son of Puhara of Hawke's Bay and Pitiera Kopu of Wairoa. He was loyal to his elders, worked for the welfare of the people and the good of his country. His last words to his people were - Cling to the faith, the Lord is our refuge and strength, the very present help in time of trouble. Farewell oh our father. Erected by his children and widow.
